I looked at A S&S M yesterday and there was no serial number in any of the usual places. For Steinway grand pianos you want to look for this: So this Steinway grand’s serial number is 244.121, using the chart below you can see that this piano was manufactured in circa 1926. ![]() You can get the year from that, perhaps someone has the details. Lift the piano lid and look for a stamped or stenciled serial number up. I think I remember on this list someone had the 'translation' of the case part numbers on S&S. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between the manufacturing number, which is also stamped on the front of the keybed, and the serial number, but they're both usually there. With very few exceptions, I've found that Steinway usually stamps the serial number into the front & center of the keybed, right behind the keyslip rail. ![]()
